5 Restaurants to Try in New Orleans
New Orleans is pretty well known for its delicious food, and it definitely lives up to the hype. We ate and drank our way through the French Quarter when we were there last year, and I still talk about some of the amazing meals we had! Here are my top 5 restaurant picks.
Curio Bistro & Bar
Curio was my absolute favorite restaurant we went to during our short stay in New Orleans. We loved it so much we went back a second time before heading to the airport! Dine inside or up on the balcony; both are super charming and picturesque.
Food to try:
- Fried green tomatoes
- French onion soup
- Crab Cakes Royal St.
- Taste of New Orleans
Location: 301 Royal St
Muriel’s on Jackson Square
Muriel’s is a beautiful historical space with multiple areas to enjoy within the building. There’s the bistro, which includes an indoor dining room and wrap around balcony. But there’s also a gorgeous indoor courtyard with a bar, a couple different private event spaces, and the Séance Lounge, which is said to house a ghost. We had a romantic candle lit dinner out on the balcony overlooking Jackson Square, and the food was some of the best we had in New Orleans. After dinner, we got a drink and went to the Séance Lounge for a bit, which was really cool and kind of creepy (in a good way!).
Food to try:
- Onion tart (seriously SO good)
- Roasted half chicken
- Wood grilled pork chop
- Pain Perdu Bread Pudding
- Flourless chocolate cake
Location: 801 Chartres St
Cafe Beignet
No trip to New Orleans is complete without eating a beignet, or several, and the best ones we had were definitely at Cafe Beignet. The location on Royal Street wasn’t very busy, and it’s so so cute! There isn’t much seating inside, but there’s a large courtyard next to it with plenty of tables. Tip: If you’re eating here for breakfast, get some eggs or something with your beignets so you aren’t just eating sugar!
Location: 334 Royal St
A Court of Two Sisters
This was one of my favorite places we ate, mostly because of the scenery and history of the property. The food was also delicious, but even if it wasn’t, I’d still go back! We went to their live jazz brunch, which is such a New Orleans vibe. We ate in the courtyard covered by a canopy of trees with a beautiful old fountain, and it was truly magical. The history of this location is too complex for me to get into, but I recommend you read about it on their website here.
Food to try:
- Eggs Benedict
- Bread pudding
Location: 613 Royal St
Napoleon House
Last but not least is Napoleon House. The original owner devised a plot to provide refuge to Napoleon Bonaparte, and while that never happened, the building has been known as Napoleon House ever since. This little restaurant has a lot of its original structure, and the walls are covered in signatures from famous people and normal people alike! Their signature sandwich, the muffuletta, is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, and the serving sizes are huge.
Food to try:
- Bruschetta
- Muffuletta (a half sandwich was plenty for 2 to share)
- Pimm’s Cup (alcoholic drink)
Location:
500 Chartres St, on the corner of Chartres and St Louis St
